Composers Circle Art Commission - Hugo Crosthwaite
explore the edges of emotion in the music and art of Mexico
This program includes Gabriela Ortiz's emotive A Pepe from Exilios for flute and string quartet, José Rolón's lush Cuarteto Romantico for violin, viola, cello, and piano, and three pieces by resident composer Andrés Martín: the virtuosic Noche de Alebrijes for double bass and piano, Pegasus for flute, violin and double bass and the mystical Ritual for string quintet. Classical Mexican chamber music is not complete without the guitar, and guitarist Fred Benedetti will dazzle on Leonardo Coral’s serene White Cedar for solo guitar and Ortiz's playful De Ida Y Vuelta for flute and guitar. As an exciting cap of the evening, the new commission by the celebrated Mexican artist Hugo Crosthwaite will be unveiled. You don’t want to miss this Mexican musical journey infused with a enriching visual element.
